Technique for wax lamps

The art I create evokes a sense of urgency, demanding attention be paid to our dear dying planet. Each handmade lamp begins with printmaking, utilizing primarily a method called monotyping. Monotypes are created by painting on a block or glass slab then placing paper over that image, transferring the image onto paper by rubbing a wooden spoon across the inked area. After creating 2-5 monotypes, I begin melting the separate images into one layered piece by ironing beeswax onto each sheet before ironing them all together. By using very thin Japanese paper, the colors from each image are able to blend together. Thus, wax serves as a sort of binder, bonding separate creations into one.

After melting each piece into one another, I begin folding and bending my creation around various types of LED lights.
